Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children : 1 out of every 300 children will develop a cancer before the age of 20.
Since there are more than 60 types of different childhood cancers, each paediatric cancer is considered a rare, non-priority disease for the drug industry. The children are treated with adult treatments, dosed according to their weight and age. This approach is too often not very effective, especially for some very aggressive cancers, and leaves serious side effects, sometimes causing disabilities for life.
Therefore the Fondatioun Kriibskrank Kanner took the decision to add a third mission to its existing two missions (to support children with cancer and their families and to raise childhood cancer awareness and to advocate for the patients it represents). The Foundation actively supports research against paediatric cancers with the goal of healing more children and better.
The Fondatioun Kriibskrank Kanner is recognized as a public utility and is financed exclusively by the generosity of the general public. It submits annually to an external audit as well as to the requirements of Don en Confiance Luxembourg.
